Putin’s power plays: Will Obama respond?

* Ralph Peters is correct with his doomsday warning about Vladimir Putin (“Putin Wins Again,” PostOpinion, April 16).

Putin clearly wants to rebuild and reinstate imperialist Russia by whatever means necessary, and he’s getting a lot of help from President Obama.

The sight of Putin getting cozy with Hugo Chavez is enough to make your skin crawl.

Why can’t the White House see that a tiny, impoverished back- water country like Venezuela does not need $9 billion in new weapons and armaments unless it has a secret agenda in mind.

Peters should help convince people that Gen. David Petraeus, as president, would be the guy to spoil Putin’s plans.

* Peters writes: “And all the while, the administration’s fighting Russia’s drug war in Afghanistan while snoozing through the narco-bloodbath on our own southern border.”

In fact, the Mexican narco-bloodbath is Russian business, too.

Other terrorist and criminal groups have been detected in Mexico, including the Russian mafia and gangs from across Eastern Europe.

According to “American Chronicle,” the Russian mafia in Mexico is deeply ingrained in the country’s Mexican drug cartels and criminal fabric.

Russia is on our southern doorstep (Mexico), as well as on our northern one (Alaska).

* Should we be worried about Putin and Chavez getting chummy with each other? You bet.

Peters makes some very good points in “Putin Wins Again.”

With our current government doing nothing but weakening this country militarily, Russia and Venezuela seem to be strengthening themselves.

We cannot afford letting this kumbaya government of ours remove our superpower status. Too many governments around the world are waiting to strike.

It is time to stop going backward and start moving forward again. November 2012 can’t come soon enough.
