Final total of Bloomberg’s 09 campaign: $109M

Mayor Bloomberg spent $109.2 million on his winning bid for a third term. That’s more than 11 times his Democratic opponent, who only lost by fewer than five points.

The billionaire mayor’s campaign filed its final spending report Thursday with the state Board of Elections.

Bloomberg is a former CEO who founded the financial information company that bears his name. He did not take donations or public money and was permitted to spend freely on his campaign. He was required to disclosed his expenses like other candidates who raise money.

The final campaign filing paid leftover bills since Bloomberg’s last spending report in January. It showed $866,250 in expenses since then.

Bloomberg’s opponent, William Thompson Jr., spent $9.4 million on his entire campaign.
