Kudos for No. 600 — but A-Rod had, uh, help

* Congratulations to Alex Rodriguez (“Number 600,” Aug. 5).

Way to go, “HGH-Rod”!

* It’s a huge milestone.

Congratulations to A-Rod, but he could hit 1,000 homers and still never have the same place in the hearts of Yankee fans as Mickey Mantle, Lou Gehrig, Thurman Munson or even Derek Jeter.

In a few years, when he gets to his 700th homer, A-Rod will probably be playing for someone else.

They’re welcome to him.

* Isn’t it nice that

A-Rod has hit his 600th home run?

Sports fans need to recognize these “heroes” for what they truly are: cheaters.

Let’s teach our youth that hard work and diligence will lead to success, not cheating.

Sports records should be treated like a pinball machine: once you “tilt” the machine, the past is erased and you start over. A-Rod’s true total after he “tilted” should be 47 (30 last year and 17 this year).

* Now that “A-Roid” is the youngest player to hit 600 homers, how about giving credit to 1960s pro-wrestler Bruno Sammartino’s final won-loss record and James Caan’s best single-season point total during his “Rollerball” career?

Each is as legitimate and relevant as the others to serious sports fans.
