Get best price with Savvy shopping

Did you miss out on Black Friday? Or did you participate in the post-Thanksgiving shopping frenzy, but are now worried that the full-priced products you bought will go on sale later?

Savvy is a new mobile app that can help you ensure you get the best deals this holiday-shopping season, even on items you already purchased.

Savvy supports more than 40 retailers, including Toys R Us, Best Buy, J.Crew, Pottery Barn and Williams-Sonoma. If you bought something at a store with a price-protection policy, simply use your phone to take a picture of your receipt (try to make sure the ink isn’t smudged and the paper isn’t horribly wrinkled), or e-mail the electronic receipt to savvy.com.

Then Savvy will monitor the cost of the items you purchased and notify you if the price drops on any of them. They’ll also tell you how to obtain a refund from the retailer. And if you missed getting some of your money back on an initial price drop, but the cost of the item goes down again, Savvy will give you another chance to recoup part of your investment.

You can also take a picture of an item’s bar code while you’re shopping, set a target price, and Savvy will let you know when the price drops to that preselected amount. And you can create a list of items you’d like to buy and get deal alerts for those.

Both features can be useful even after the holidays. If you spot something that’s out of your price range now, you can buy it later, at a lower price, for a birthday or other special occasion.

Savvy is free for the iPhone, and an Android version is expected to be released the first week of December.
