NBA: Cavs guard Irving breaks right hand

Cavaliers guard Kyrie Irving broke his right hand during a practice in Las Vegas and could be sidelined two months.

The rookie of the year injured his hand slapping the padding on a wall. The team said it expects Irving to be ready for the start of training camp in late September.

The Hornets said they’ve matched the Suns’ four-year, $58 million offer to Eric Gordon, keeping the restricted free agent guard in New Orleans. Before signing the Suns’ offer sheet, Gordon said he hoped to play for Phoenix.

ETC.: Former Rutgers coach Burns dead

Frank Burns, who played for Rutgers and went on to become the school’s all-time winningest football coach, has died. He was 84. Burns, who played quarterback from 1945-48, coached the Scarlet Knights from 1973-83, finishing with a 78-43-1 record. He helped Rutgers to an 11-0 record in 1976.

The Braves acquired shortstop Paul Janish in a trade with the Reds and manager Fredi Gonzalez said he will be in the lineup for today’s series finale with the Mets. Starting shortstop Jack Wilson was placed on the disabled list after dislocating a finger.

The Raiders and safety Tyvon Branch have agreed to a new four-year contract worth $26.6 million with $17.1 million guaranteed.

In Las Vegas, underdog Danny Garcia (24-0, 15 KOs) of Philadelphia stopped Amir Khan in the fourth round of a junior welterweight title fight. … In London, David Haye knocked out Dereck Chisora in the fifth round, five months after the heavyweights brawled at a news conference.
