iPhone 5 sales could hit 10 million in first week

iPhone 5 sales could hit 10 million in its first week, according an analyst’s note.

Apple is expected to launch the iPhone 5 at an event on September 12, and the new phone will reportedly go on sale on Friday, September 21.

If this date’s correct, Apple could sell 6-10 million iPhone 5 units through the end of the month, Piper Jaffray analyst Gene Munster wrote in an investors note released today, CNET reports.

Apple could sell 26 million iPhones in the full September quarter, Munster adds, which is more than the average Wall Street estimate of 22-23 million units.

JPMorgan analyst Mark Moskowitz is predicting Apple will sell 168 million iPhones in its 2013 fiscal year, up from a previous estimate of 1477.4 million.

Apple’s next fiscal year starts next month.

Last year, Apple said that it sold more than 4 million iPhone 4S units during the three-day weekend in October when it first went on sale.
