Hotter than asphalt in the summer sun, jockey Irad Ortiz Jr. booted home five winners at Aqueduct on Monday, following a four-win day on Sunday and three winners on Saturday. The five-pack matches his previous career high set at the Big A on Dec. 15.
In addition to taking the featured Jimmy Winkfield Stakes aboard Clawback ($2.90), Ortiz – a 20-year-old graduate of the Escuela Vocacional Hipica jockey school in Puerto Rico – won the first race with Won Great Classic ($4.50), the third with Tweet Me ($7.10), the eighth with Awesome Vision ($8.80) and the ninth with Revere ($8.90).
Irad Ortiz’s younger brother, apprentice Jose, 19, has won seven races in the last three days.
