Jets coach’s brother must get permission from Saints to speak with media: report

Maybe this is something the Jets should look into.

Rex Ryan’s twin Rob has a clause in his new contract with the Saints stipulating that he cannot speak with the media unless approved by team vice president of communications Greg Bensel, according to a report by NFL.com’s Andy Fenelon. Rob was hired as the team’s defensive coordinator, a deal that was made official Saturday.

Rob Ryan, like his Jets coach brother, has a propensity for running his mouth and making ridiculous guarantees. He said when he was fired by the Cowboys that it would take “like five minutes” to get a new job. Actually it was more like a month and the team he first had an agreement with, the Rams, decided to go in a different direction.

“Better coaches than me have been fired,” Rob Ryan said to ESPN.com after his dismissal from the Cowboys. “Just not many.”

The long-haired, bearded Rob Ryan has also been the defensive coordinator for the Raiders and Browns. Rex just completed his fourth season with the Jets.

The Post’s Bart Hubbuch disputed Fenelon’s report on Twitter, saying that any contract like that would be a violation of the NFL’s media policy. Assistant coaches must be available to the press at designated times, the policy states.

Bensel took to Twitter to deny the report, calling it “100% false.”

“He like all of our coaches, follow norm league media rules,” Bensel wrote.
