Yankees’ Cano not a target in Biogenesis case

Yankees second baseman Robinson Cano is not a suspect in the Biogenesis case, as The Post and other media outlets reported on April 23.

While Major League Baseball is pushing forward in its efforts to suspend players suspected of purchasing illegal performance-enhancing drugs from Biogenesis, the now defunct anti-aging clinic, Cano is not being targeted by the commissioner’s office, which is working to secure the testimony of Biogenesis’ founder Anthony Bosch.

On April 22, ESPN reported that the name of Sonia Cruz, the spokeswoman for Cano’s RC24 Foundation, came up on Biogenesis documents. The Post reported at that juncture that such a link was not enough to concern baseball officials about Cano’s potential usage. Cano’s name specifically did not come up in the Biogenesis paperwork.

Cano’s Yankees teammates Alex Rodriguez and Francisco Cervelli are both on MLB’s list of possible violators, with A-Rod possibly facing a 100-game suspension if he can’t successfully appeal a penalty.
