Bucs GM says Revis could play in preseason, so ‘he’s ready to go’ for opener vs. Jets

Jets fans may have even more reason to be excited for Week 1.

Darrelle Revis, whose playing status for the beginning of the season has been in doubt since he suffered a torn ACL last season, has progressed well enough in his recovery that he could see his first game action in week 3 of the preseason with Tampa Bay.

According to ESPN, the Buccaneers are considering playing the former Jets cornerback on Aug. 24 at Miami, which would increase the chances he will face his former team on Sept. 8 at Metlife Stadium.

“You don’t want to push,” Bucs general manager Mark Dominik said. “You want to stick with your plan. But we may want to get him on the field Week 3 of the preseason, get a few series in, get it over with, get it out of his head, so that Week 1 in New York he’s ready to go.”

Revis’ potential return in Miami would come on the same field where he suffered last year’s season-ending injury in Week 3, in his last game with the Jets.
