Wrong-blood hospital duo fired

Two workers have been fired from Coney Island Hospital, where an 84-year-old woman died in June after she was given the wrong blood type during a transfusion, a source said yesterday.

Officials said the fatal mishap occurred when a technician wrongly labeled the patient’s blood.

Since the blunder, blood for Coney Island Hospital patients has been typed by technicians at Kings County Hospital Center, with the results then phoned in to Coney Island, sources said.

A spokeswoman for the city’s Health and Hospitals Corporation said it “had nothing new to report.”
