Beckham’s brilliance can force Manning under the radar

Hero

Giants rookie receiver Odell Beckham Jr. was — what’s new? — the star of the game, catching eight passes for 148 yards and two TDs. The Rams had no answer for Beckham. His 9-yard scoring reception in the first quarter gave the Giants a 10-0 lead and his 80-yard catch-and-run TD at the end of the third quarter gave them a 34-20 lead.

Unsung hero

Eli Manning. This is representative of just how good Beckham is. The Giants quarterback completed 25-of-32 for 391 yards and 3 TDs with a near-perfect passer rating of 148.8. Usually, those numbers are enough to warrant “hero’’ of the game.

Zero

Rams linebacker Alec Ogletree, who had the late hit on Beckham that incited a wild brawl on the Giants’ sideline late in the first half. The play seemed to spark the Giants, and Beckham, which, as it turned out, was not wise.

Numbers to know

514. The number of offensive yards the Giants rang up — a season-high.

Quote of the day

“We showed the proper composure as time went on, but I’m not going to accept anybody pushing my family around. Nobody can walk up and punch my brother in the face and [not have] me represent him and be at his side.’’

—Giants LB Jameel McClain on the brawl touched off by a late hit on Odell Beckham Jr.
