Man dies after jumping in front of LIRR train

A man was fatally struck by a Long Island Rail Road train barreling into a Queens station Wednesday, officials said.

The 38-year-old apparently jumped in front of an oncoming Port Washington train as it was pulling into the Flushing-Main Street station in Flushing around 4:45 p.m., according to the LIRR and NYPD police.

Passengers exited through the first two cars which had entered the station, and service has been temporarily suspended on the Port Washington branch, LIRR said.

The MTA is honoring fares for riders on the 7 train at Flushing-Main Street and 61st Street, officials said.

The unidentified man was pronounced dead at the scene, FDNY said.
