Upper East Side school closed after Legionnaires’ discovery

An Upper East Side parochial school was closed for cleaning after tests found low levels of the legionella bacteria in a cooling tower, according to a report.

Health officials said it is unlikely anyone has been sickened at the Convent of the Sacred Heart, an all-girls school on East 91st Street, WINS radio reported.

The school had been open for faculty meetings only.

The cooling system has now been disinfected twice by an environmental engineering firm, faculty were told in a letter from Principal Joseph Ciancaglini.

Classes will start next week as scheduled, he said.
