De Blasio touts number of homeowners receiving Sandy funds

Nearly three years after Hurricane Sandy, Mayor de Blasio joined US Housing Secretary Julian Castro in Breezy Point, Queens, Tuesday to boast that most of the homeowners in the city who applied for rebuilding funds have received them.

The mayor said that since he took office in 2014, work has begun on 1,877 damaged homes and nearly 1,200 have been completed.

He also said that 5,312 families who applied for damage-related reimbursement have received checks through the federally funded ”Build It Back” program.
