Man survives bear attack, braves flashbacks to see ‘The Revenant’

Leonardo DiCaprio, Greg Boswell feels your pain.

Boswell, 24, hit up the movie theater this weekend with his girlfriend to go see “The Revenant” despite pals warning him that it might give him flashbacks to his real-life near-death bear fight in November.

He watched as DiCaprio’s character thrashed in the snow trying to escape the behemoth’s claws — in what the actor called “one of the most immersive experiences audiences will ever have with what it would be like to come face-to-face with an animal of that magnitude that is incredibly primal.”

Boswell has empathy for what that was like, as he experienced the same thing on a climbing expedition at Mount Wilson in the Canadian Rockies on Nov. 29.

“I don’t know whether it was sound or instinct, but suddenly I looked over my shoulder and saw this bear running full pelt towards us, its paws bounding in the snow,” he told The Telegraph.

Soon, he found himself pinned to the ground by the bear, who had bit through his boot and was clawing its way up his body.

“It grabbed my leg in its teeth, making this super-loud crunching sound and lifted me up so only my shoulders were on the ground. It was crazy how much strength it had,” he said.

Boswell managed to punch the bear in the mouth, which startled it and inevitably scared it off.

With blood gushing for his leg, Boswell continued his trek down the mountain with his hiking partner and their ice picks.

Hours later, he made it to Banff Mineral Springs Hospital — where doctors told him he was “super lucky” that the bear had missed his major arteries by just a hair.

Despite his grisly experience, Boswell is already planning his next hike and also plans to return to the Canadian Rockies– with plenty of bear spray on hand.

And even though he says he doesn’t lose sleep over the attack, he says he’ll never forget the furry face that nearly took his life.

“I don’t get nightmares — but I do still see the bear’s green eyes in my head,” he said.
