‘The Good Wife’ is in its final season

“The Good Wife” will end its run at the conclusion of its current seventh season, CBS confirmed in a Super Bowl promo Sunday night.

Nine episodes remain this year for the legal drama, with its series finale set for May 8.

The announcement confirms speculation that the drama was winding down after creators Robert and Michelle King said they would exit after Season 7 to work on their new CBS series, “Braindead.” Star Julianna Margulies, who plays political wife-turned-lawyer Alicia Florrick, also said last month that she would be “unemployed come April.”

In a statement, the Kings said the seventh season would “bring Alicia’s story to its natural conclusion.”

“The Good Wife” has been a prestige player for CBS since its 2009 debut, winning five Emmy Awards, including two for Margulies. Its current season is averaging nearly 11 million viewers.
