Yeezus, that’s a lot! GoFundMe campaign seeks $53M for Kanye

Kanye West is testing the limits of crowdfunding.

A Minneapolis-based designer has launched a tongue-in-cheek GoFundMe campaign to raise $53 million for the heavily indebted rapper and fashion designer.

In a Twitter rant over the weekend, West claimed to be $53 million in the hole and begged tech billionaire Mark Zuckerberg to fund his business and artistic endeavors to the tune of $1 billion.

Jeremy Piatt, who professes to be a fan of the “Yeezus” artist, created a GoFundMe page for Kanye on Tuesday. As of Wednesday morning, the campaign had raised just $314.

“Kanye West, prolific entertainer/fashion icon/celebrity/member of the Kardashian family needs our help!” Piatt posted. “Sure he is personally rich and can buy furs and houses for his family, but without our help, the true genius of Kanye West can’t be realized.”

Most of the people who donated money saw it as an opportunity to sound off on West and his outsize ego.

“5 dollars is worth being able to tell you your [sic] a punk and to shut the hell up,’” wrote one.

Still, some weighed in with what appeared to be genuine appreciation for West.

“I learn so much from your brand of crazy. Thank you for everything,” one fan wrote.
