Derek Carr has a new fan after Good Samaritan act

Derek Carr may have won over more than one Raiders convert with his Good Samaritan act Tuesday.

The Raiders quarterback, who still is recovering from a broken leg he suffered against the Colts in December, cast his mind far from his own problems when he spotted a stranger, DJ and music producer Ron Reeser, pulled over on the side of the road in a Bay Area suburb. When Carr learned Reeser had run out of gas and intended to walk to the gas station to seek help, the two-time Pro Bowler offered up his passenger seat, and the two started chatting like old friends.

It wasn’t until the return trip to Reeser’s car, after he’d learned about his savior’s career (football) and passion (religion), that Reeser got to the bottom of Carr’s identity.

“He said he was a quarterback; I thought he was a college quarterback,” DJ and music producer Ron Reeser told All22.com Wednesday. “I asked him what string he was. He said ‘first string.’ I asked him his favorite team. He said, ‘I may be biased, but the Raiders because I play for them.’ I looked at him and said, ‘Wait’ … and I asked him his name. He said ‘Derek Carr.’

“He couldn’t have been more down to earth. He was wearing a hat and basketball shorts. I had no idea. He was just driving by and helped. It really made me feel good that there are good people still out there doing nice things for people.”

After sharing contact information and a prayer with the 25-year-old quarterback, Reeser admitted he’s considering betraying his hometown team and crossing city lines to support his new friend.

“I’ve grown up a Niners fan,” Reeser said. “But the last year was pretty tough, and after my experience with Derek, I just may become a Raiders fan now.”
