Mother’s Day rainfall might not be as bad as we thought

It will be a day only a mother could love.

A spring storm will soak the city with nearly 2 inches of rain before the weekend is done, but Mother’s Day won’t be a complete washout, forecasters said.

Gotham was expected to get 1¹/₂ inches of rain by late Saturday, but winds that had been gusting up to 30 mph were to diminish by Sunday morning, AccuWeather meteorologist Frank Strait said.

“It may not rain at all in the morning, and starting around midday we’ll have some showers in the area. And the best opportunity for a thunderstorm will be to the north of the city.”

Sunday’s forecast calls for some midday showers and maybe a thunderstorm, with less than a half-inch of accumulations. The high temperature is 66 degrees.

Monday will be sunny, dry and windy with wind gusts up to 40 miles per hour and a high of 68.

One Chambers Street businessman lamented the slow flower-bouquet sales.

“Just one more wet thing for [customers] to carry,” he said.
