Hero delivery man gets pizza to riders trapped in stalled train

A pizza deliveryman became an instant hero to riders trapped on an Amtrak train in Delaware — going above and beyond the call of duty to dish pies to famished passengers.

Train No. 161 from New York to Washington, DC, became stuck because of a mechanical issue, prompting passenger Mitch Katz to call Dom’s Pizza of Newport at 6 p.m. on Sunday.

Katz used GPS mapping to pinpoint his exact location to driver James Leary, 46, said Dom’s owner, Dominic Philingera, to The Post.

Leary went through a backyard and down a narrow steep passageway to deliver two hot pies – one cheese and the other pepperoni – to Katz. He got a $30 tip on the $22 bill.

Katz was more than grateful, tweeting “shout out to @domaholics for feeding since @Amtrak won’t.”

Philingera said he’s not surprised Leary was up for the challenge.

“My guy has been delivering for 20 years,” he said. “This is what he does, he’s a pro.”

Train 161 pulled into Washington’s Union Station at 8:40 p.m., three hours and 10 minutes late.

“Service on Amtrak Northeast Regional Train 161 was disrupted on Sunday due to mechanical issues,” Amtrak spokeswoman Kimberly Woods said on Monday.

“We sincerely apologize for the inconvenience to our passengers. We know train delays can be frustrating, but it is extremely dangerous to approach a train on the tracks. We are glad no one was hurt and hope this is not tried again in the future.”
