Massive gridlock expected near Holland Tunnel

The Port Authority is warning commuters to prepare for massive gridlock near the Holland Tunnel this week after a fire damaged a nearby ramp.

The fire broke out underneath the Cole Street bridge on Route 139 on Friday evening, damaging the ramp and forcing officials to shut down three lanes of westward bound traffic.

Port Authority officials say they are working on a relief plan, but haven’t yet said what they plan to do to help is rush-hour gridlock.

They are also encouraging drivers traveling between New York City and New Jersey to leave their cars at home this week and use other methods of transportation.
