Tournament interview gets awkward after coach is asked why he quit

Florida State stopped playing. The world, which was represented by TBS’ Dana Jacobson, wanted to know why.

Down 58-54 to Michigan with 11 seconds left Saturday in the Elite Eight matchup, Leonard Hamilton’s Seminoles elected not to foul, conceding a game that was almost certainly decided (if not completely decided).

It was a strange way to accept defeat, especially because Michigan, which shot 16-of-24 free throws on the day, had missed several big ones down the stretch.

So Jacobson opened the postgame interview by asking Hamilton why he didn’t foul in the closing seconds.

“What are you talking about?” he said, minutes after Florida State’s run had finished.

Jacobson clarified, and Hamilton nearly walked out of the interview.

“Do you think the game came down to the final seconds of the game?” he said.

“The game was over.”

Jacobson continued explaining her question as Hamilton added an eyeroll and offered few words of explanation.
