ICE detainee escapes from custody at JFK Airport

An ICE detainee eluded custody at JFK Airport on Tuesday night and fled by hopping into a cab, officials said.

The individual was in the process of being transferred to another flight at the airport when he somehow escaped, according to a Port Authority spokesman.

The prisoner was spotted on surveillance footage as he grabbed a taxi and left the grounds.

He was no longer a threat to passengers at the airport.

A rep for Immigration and Customs Enforcement could not be reached early Wednesday.
