A woman in Dallas is recovering Monday after being bitten by four pit bulls in a “horrific” attack, police and witnesses said.
The unidentified woman was walking in South Dallas at about 2 a.m. Sunday when her neighbors’ dogs attacked her in the 4300 block of Hamilton Avenue, the Dallas Morning News reports.
A witness spotted the attack and called cops before the owner of the dogs helped capture the animals before responding Dallas Animal Services workers took them into custody, police said.
Dallas Animal Services director Ed Jamison told WFAA that citations were issued to the dogs’ owner for failing to vaccinate, microchip, sterilize and confine the pit bulls, which were being quarantined, according to the station.
A serious bodily injury investigation was launched by the agency, which could lead to them possible being euthanized, WFAA reports.
Resident Eddie Trevino, who lives near where the attack occurred, said the dogs were relentless during the early morning incident.
“They were not stopping the attack on her,” Trevino told WFAA. “They were biting, switching spots, I mean it was just a horrific scene.”
The woman was listed in stable condition Monday after being hospitalized for her injuries, according to the Dallas Morning News.
The attack happened less than two miles away from where Antoinette Brown, 52, was fatally mauled by a pack of loose dogs in May 2016. She died a week after the attack, during which the dogs bit her more than 100 times, pouncing on her as if they were “eating a steak,” according to the newspaper. Neighbors had called city officials 11 times prior to the attack to report worrisome stray dogs in the area.
The owner of the pit bulls in Sunday’s attack, meanwhile, has been identified by KXAS as Keithan Manus.
“I don’t know the whole scenario of what happened,” Manus told the station, adding that he shut his fence before going to bed but the dogs managed to get out. “I was asleep.”
Manus said he expects to be ordered to pay citations in connection with the attack, KXAS reports.
