For those who’ve been following our plays here in The Post since our first “Weekend Betting Guide” on June 29, We hope you were on board with Novak Djokovic at +550 to win Wimbledon. Now we’re back for the U.S. Open, which begins Monday.
Djokovic is the +220 favorite at the William Hill books in New Jersey, but I consulted with my tennis betting partner Jeff and we no longer see value on him at that price.
The play: Juan Martin del Potro at 14/1. He won this tournament in 2009 and is in the best form of his career, including two tournament wins this year. Furthermore, he’s the No. 3 seed and ranked No. 3 in the world, yet he’s somehow being dismissed as the fifth betting choice despite having a relatively favorable draw that should have him cruise into the quarterfinals.
