Man raped girlfriend after she refused sex 10 times: police

A Florida man raped and choked his girlfriend after she refused to have sex with him at least 10 times, police said.

Johnathan Adam Santiago Gonzalez, 26, was arrested Thursday after the woman told police that he raped and choked her during an incident in late September, the Gainesville Sun reports.

Gonzalez, of Davie, was visiting the woman at her home in Gainesville — some 315 miles away — beginning on Sept. 23. Two days later, Gonzalez and the woman started arguing at about 4 a.m. when he tried to initiate sex, according to a police affidavit obtained by the newspaper. She turned him down on at least 10 occasions, the paper reported.

Gonzalez raped the woman — only stopping after he became angry that she said he smelled like cigarettes, police said.

The couple then got into another argument later in the day, prompting Gonzalez to pick the woman up and slam her to the ground, then put her in a chokehold for several seconds, police said.

The woman eventually managed to fend off Gonzalez, who was arrested in St. Lucie County and later charged with sexual battery, domestic battery by strangulation and obstructing justice.

He remained held on $45,000 bond as of Monday, jail records show.
