Jurors see graphic photos from bloody aftermath of sword attack

Newly released evidence photos in the trial of the Queens women who sliced up her fiance with a samurai sword show the bloody aftermath from the gruesome scene.

Photos shown to jurors in Queens Supreme Court, and released to the media Thursday, show blood covering the floor and walls of Karla Barba and Franklin Larrea’s Jackson Heights apartment — as well as on the blade of the unsheathed sword and Barba herself.

Barba — the former girlfriend of disgraced politician Hiram Monserrate — is facing charges of assault and endangering the welfare of a child for wounding Larrea with the sabre during a row at their home in 2016, and then allegedly leaving him bleeding out while his 12-year-old son frantically called 911.

Another image released Thursday shows Larrea’s mangled arm in the hospital after the incident — with a huge slice near his elbow and skin hanging off his wrist.

Meanwhile, in court Thursday, Barba burst into tears when the police officer who arrested her that night walked in to testify — sobbing so uncontrollably the jury had to be let out of the room while she composed herself.

After she returned, the judge warned Barba she’d be kicked out of the courtroom for any more outbursts.

NYPD Officer Jeremy Mendofik then described finding a barely-conscious Larrea in a “puddle of blood” in the lobby of their building when he arrived at the scene — then following a trail of blood up the stairs to their third-floor apartment where Barba was with other officers.

Barba’s lawyer is arguing that she didn’t realize the sword was more than “decorative” when she hit him with it during their argument — and then didn’t realize how wounded he was by the blows.
