The Hamptons’ hottest new restaurants of 2019

Carissa’s the Bakery, 221 Pantigo Road, East Hampton

Longtime neighborhood bakery Carissa’s is branching out with an expansive second location this summer. While the original location, at 68 Newtown Lane, will remain open, the new bakeshop-slash-restaurant will offer an open view of how its beloved pastries, sweet potato brioche and signature pickled rye bread are made. Prepared foods and — for the first time — housemade gelato will be available to-go, or can be devoured in the bright cafe and outdoor patio. In the evening, the space evolves into a full-service restaurant, offering a menu of elevated fare from Chez Panisse alum Molly Levine, which pays homage to local farmers and fishermen.

Paola’s, 341 Pantigo Road, East Hampton

Paola’s

The site formerly home to EMP Summer House will reopen soon as the East End outpost of Paola’s, the buzzing authentic joint on Manhattan’s UES. Highlights include cacio e pepe and linguine with clams along with seasonal specials (fueled by local fishmongers and farmers), plus the signature “Buzzy Salad” (named for co-owner Buzzy Geduld) with roasted beets and English green peas. The casual-chic space boasts three bars, indoor-outdoor dining, yoga sessions in the garden and backyard games to keep the party going all afternoon.

Coche Comedor, 74 Montauk Highway, Amagansett

Coche Comedor

The team behind Hamptons institution Nick & Toni’s has reimagined the space next to its La Fondita taqueria as the year-round Coche Comedor, serving up locally influenced Mexican cuisine and weekend brunch. A mural from Brooklyn graffiti star Host18 and custom tabletops from seven local artists make for splashy decor, while retractable glass doors create a flow to outdoor seating. Housemade tortillas envelop meats and seafood from the wood-burning grill and rotisserie; an expansive raw bar selection is accented by various ceviche offerings. The on-tap seasonal sangria is only upstaged by creative prickly pear and tamarind margaritas.

Morty’s Oyster Stand, 2167 Montauk Highway, Amagansett

Morty’s Oyster Stand

Morty’s has taken over the site formerly known as Cyril’s Fish House, showcasing an assortment of daily rotating fresh oysters, Maine uni and other raw bar noshes. Follow those with a creative starter (whitefish and summer squash ceviche, or fried clams with chili aioli), before tucking into a classic entree (hanger steak, fried chicken or cioppino). Cyril’s signature BBC (Bailey’s Banana Colada) drink remains on the menu — and also appears as an ice-cream sandwich — alongside robust cocktails whipped up with fresh celery juice or carbonated beet juice. To your health!

Bostwick’s on the Harbor, 39 Gann Road, East Hampton

Bostwick’s on the Harbor

Beloved East Hampton mainstay Bostwick’s is branching out with a second location. Now its famously fresh fare can be enjoyed roadside at the original Chowder House or seaside at this new respite. The Harbor outpost will highlight local clams and oysters on the half shell, steamed lobsters, garlic mussels, Bostwick’s famous seafood pasta and more. Refreshing beers on draught, wine and cocktails will also be on hand for imbibing during long summer days.

Brooklyn Chop House, 281 County Road 39A, Southampton

Brooklyn Chop House

After popping up last summer, Brooklyn Chop House returns to the Capri Hotel this season, serving breakfast, lunch, dinner indoors as well as a poolside brunch and lunch. A mix of international surf-and-turf selections are complemented by specialty cocktails, craft beers and wine. Bring a friend to enjoy dishes designed for two, like the porterhouse, Long Island Peking duck, Alaskan king crab legs and lobster. Meanwhile, meat and seafood satays; mouthwatering Pat LaFrieda steaks and burgers; and unusual dumpling creations (think: gyro or pastrami) round out the offerings.

Union Burger Bar, 40 Bowden Square, Southampton

Union Burger Bar

Popular Southampton Mexican spot Union Cantina is expanding its borders with this new, adjoining burger joint. Patrons can build their own creations or select from house favorites — like the Southwest (with apricot-bacon barbecue sauce on a pretzel bun), Breakfast (on an English muffin with hash browns) and Coopers Beach (with pineapple marmalade) — all headlined by patties formed from fresh Colorado beef. Cap things off with a milkshake, like the graham cracker-rimmed Kampfire or the liqueur-infused Shakey Bailey.

Silver Lining Diner, 32 Montauk Highway, Southampton

Silver Lining Diner

The team at Bay Kitchen Bar is moving to Southampton to unveil a bright and airy space this June, serving up classic diner dishes with an elevated twist for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Chow down on pancakes, burgers and local seafood along with soft-serve ice cream and fresh-squeezed juices at the counter or booth seats, or order online for the beach.

Blu Mar, 136 Main St., Southampton

Blu Mar

Award-winning chef Terrance Brennan is taking over the space formerly held by Maison Vivienne (inside the Harpoon House hotel), with this coastal-inspired concept, opening just in time for the summer season with plans to operate year-round. Mediterranean-influenced mezzes, like sea urchin bruschetta and whole-roasted cauliflower, headline a menu centered around grilled meats and seafood, local farm vegetables and housemade pastas.
