Mom critically injured when family tossed from log flume

A woman was critically injured when her family was tossed from an amusement park log flume in California.

The unidentified woman was with her husband and their 10-year-old son at Castle Park in Riverside on Saturday when the ride malfunctioned and their log flipped, throwing them into water.

Fire officials believe it crashed because water that was needed to slow it down was missing due to a broken water pump.

“A single family had three injuries — one we categorize as critical with the two others being minor,” fire captain Brian Guzzetta told ABC.

Video footage given to the station appears to show the injured boy and his father getting out of the water after they were thrown.

“We saw them getting bandaged up,” one witness told the station, saying one of them had most of his head covered. “He was all jacked up.”

Omar Ramirez told the station, “I’ve been coming here since I was a kid and never seen this happen.”

The log ride was closed for an investigation but Castle Park remained open through the weekend.

“Our thoughts and prayers go out to the family involved,” Castle Park tweeted.

“Safety has always been our highest priority,” the message continued, saying that all rides are “thoroughly inspected and tested every day” before opening.

“We are conducting a full investigation into the cause of the incident on the Log Ride and are fully cooperating with the California Department of Occupational Safety and Health.”
