Delta Air Lines is allowing passengers flying to the Dominican Republic’s Punta Cana airport to change or cancel their flights without penalty amid a recent spate of mysterious deaths and illnesses in the country.
The airline announced flight changes for trips to Punta Cana won’t be subjected to fees through Aug. 15, citing “recent events” in the resort town, where several American tourists have died.
Travelers who change their flight to Punta Cana must rebook their travel for before Nov. 20.
But for those who cancel their flight entirely, they will have one year from their initial booking date to use the credit, according to the advisory.
The company’s announcement comes as a study revealed that Dominican Republic bookings are down around 74 percent for the months of July and August compared to the same period last year.
