Ball boy collapses in Wimbledon scare

Not everyone can withstand the intense summer heat.

During the first day at Wimbledon, a ball boy collapsed while working Court 11 as Feliciano Lopez took on Marcos Giron. The court is located in an area with no surrounding shade.

While the heat only climbed to about 71 degrees Fahrenheit, the extreme sunshine took its toll, causing the ballboy to faint. The line judges quickly ran to his assistance, and took him off the court for further assessment.

Training to become a ballboy/girl at Wimbledon requires vigorous training in fitness, range of tuition, court work, and knowledge of the game, according to The Sun. The training program begins in February to allow the trainees to properly prepare for the grand slam event.

The tournament started Monday and runs for the next two weeks in London. The forecast looks as though it will remain the same until the end of the week.

As soon as the match resumed, Lopez secured a 6-4 6-2 6-4 win against Giron.

Lopez will be facing Karen Khachanov on Wednesday.
