Jimmy Butler finally off to Heat after mega-four team trade

After extensive league-wide maneuvers, Jimmy Butler is finally headed to South Beach.

The Heat, Blazers, 76ers and Clippers completed a four-team sign-and-trade Monday, landing Miami the star it coveted, according to ESPN.

Butler will sign a four-year, $142 million max deal while the Heat will also land Meyers Leonard. Portland gets Hassan Whiteside, Philadelphia adds Josh Richardson and Los Angeles picks up Maurice Harkless and a future Heat first round pick, likely in 2023.

The Heat appeared to have landed the four-time All-Star Butler through a three-team sign-and-trade with the 76ers on Sunday night, sending Richardson back to Philadelphia and Goran Dragic to the Mavericks. But the deal fell through when the Mavericks decided they no longer wanted Dragic, who is set to make $19.2 million next year.

Later Sunday night, reports emerged that the Heat audibled to sending Kelly Olynyk and Derrick Jones Jr. to the Mavericks instead. When the Mavericks reportedly agreed, Miami no longer wanted to depart with the high-flying Jones.

It took a day longer than he wanted, but Butler finally has a new home.
