Gamer Twitter is up in arms about Nintendo character Wario’s apparent lack of nipples.
In a video released by Nintendo this week of upcoming Nintendo Switch game “Mario & Sonic at The Olympic Games Tokyo 2020,” Wario makes a topless cameo — and something’s missing.
“Where are Wario’s nipples,” one cosplayer tweets alongside a photo of the round, butt-chinned character standing on an Olympic award podium. “The world demands answers.”
Next to Wario in the image is Sonic character Dr. Ivo “Eggman” Robotnik, who has visible nipples.
Some are arguing that Wario does in fact have nipples — they’re just weirdly light.
“Found a higher quality image and Wario does in fact have nipples!” writes one nipple truther, alongside a supporting image.
“You can find similar examples in the real world if you search for ‘ghost nipples,’ ” adds someone who’s apparently familiar with the condition.
The fixation on Wario’s pecs comes two years after the internet became similarly obsessed with Mario’s nipples, after he was revealed to have them in “Super Mario Odyssey.”
“Remember the hubub over Mario’s nipples,” writes gaming blogger Hope Corrigan.
Corrigan theorizes that Wario’s niplessness reveals something bigger about his character.
“Robotnik and Mario are from the same nipple universe or ‘nipple verse’ if you will. Wario [is] not.”
