Colorado woman shot in face during road rage attack speaks out: ‘Everything is different’

A 20-year-old Denver woman says she’s enduring a grueling recovery after she was shot in the face during a road rage attack.

“Everything is different: how I wake up, how I talk, how I eat. I’m grateful that I’m alive,” Karen Escamilla told news station KDVR.

Escamilla was involved in an altercation on the road last month in which a 16-year-old suspect pulled a gun on her, the outlet reported.

He fired a bullet that got caught in her sinuses, resulting in her jaw shattering in seven places, KDVR reported. Her jaw is now wired shut, making it difficult for her to talk or eat.

“This is not who I am. I’ll be normal again, and that’s what I’m hoping for is that I can put this behind me and move on from something so tragic,” Escamilla said.

The teen suspect faces multiple charges in connection to the shooting, including attempted murder, the outlet reported. He wasn’t identified because he’s a minor.
