Listen to Episode 5 of ‘Blue Rush’: The Black Cat Game feat. Jim Fassel

Blue Rush Episode 5 Black Cat
Robert Sabo

Jimmy Failla opens the show discussing the Giants’ Monday night loss to the Cowboys and the black cat who leads the Giants in rushing.

NY Post Giants beat writer Paul Schwartz breaks down the Giants’ fifth straight loss, the feel inside the locker room and where the team goes from here.

Former Giants head coach Jim Fassel comes on to chat about his most memorable games as coach, going to the Super Bowl, how Bill Parcells wanted the Giants coaching job that Fassel got, the end of his Giants tenure and his son coaching with the Rams.

Fassel on winning against Jets and Bill Parcells:

Fassel: Parcells tried to get the job back. He can deny it, deny it, deny it, deny it. But George Young was the general manager and that’s it. He hired me. It was special because Parcells was coaching the Jets and Bill Belichick was there. It was special for me because nobody wants to say it, but I’ll tell you. Parcells tried to get the job back. I know. I know. I know for a fact. … I’ll go to my grave that he tried to get the job back. George Young … no. George Young was a powerful guy. He had control of everything. He had offered me the job and I know Bill was trying to get the job … talking to people and stuff like that, but no, gonna hire me. And then the next thing for Parcells, the best thing, would be to go to the Jets.

Fassel on animosity toward Parcells going to Jets:

Fassel: I don’t want to go into another thing … but when I got hired there and he was still the head coach, yeah, I got some animosity. But after that, you got to let it go. Sometimes you got to let it go and move on. There’s so much stuff that goes behind the scenes that if you carry that always with you, you’re going to die as a young man.
