The ringleader of the college-admissions scandal, William “Rick” Singer, tried to recruit seven Stanford coaches over a 10-year period, the school said.
Stanford President Marc Tessier-Lavigne on Tuesday released the results of an external review commissioned by the school after their head sailing coach pleaded guilty.
The coach, John Vandemoer, had been accused of accepting bribes from Singer in exchange for attempting to get unqualified students accepted to the school.
The review showed that in addition to bribing Vandemoer, Singer also approached a total of seven Stanford coaches between 2009 and 2019.
Vandemoer tried to get two possible students accepted in exchange for cash from Singer — but neither of them were actually accepted, Tessier-Lavigne wrote in the statement.
The review into Stanford’s involvement in the scandal was conducted by a private law firm. Investigators interviewed more than 55 people and examined more than 35,000 records, according to Tessier-Lavigne.
Dozens of people — including actresses Felicity Huffman and Lori Loughlin — were busted in Singer’s scheme.
Huffman pleaded guilty to paying $15,000 to inflate her daughter’s SAT scores and was sentenced last month to serve two weeks behind bars.
Loughlin has pleaded not guilty to allegations she paid Singer $500,000 to get her daughters admitted to the University of Southern California as rowing recruits.
