Larry David: Jets GM ‘laughed’ at my Lamar Jackson draft suggestion

Oh how things could have been for the Jets.

During an appearance Tuesday on “The Michael Kay Show,” Larry David claimed he called former GM Mike Maccagnan ahead of the 2018 NFL Draft, instructing him to use the third-overall pick on a quarterback not named Sam Darnold.

“I did call Mike Maccagnan before the 2018 draft and I recommended that he draft Lamar Jackson,” said David, a longtime Jets fan, noting he had a “witness” to the alleged conversation.

While the Jets ultimately pulled the trigger on Darnold, the “Seinfeld” and “Curb Your Enthusiasm” creator said Maccagnan responded to his suggestion condescendingly.

“He laughed at me, but who could blame him, nobody thought Jackson was gonna be (this good),” David said.

The Ravens scooped up Jackson with the 32nd pick. The 23-year-old MVP favorite will take on the Titans Saturday in the AFC divisional round.

Maccagnan was fired last May with two years remaining on his contract.

As for David’s favorite team, he has adjusted to new coach Adam Gase — just not his headgear.

“I can’t take the hat. I can’t take a coach wearing a hat constantly, it tells me that there’s something about him, he’s not comfortable with himself,” David said.

David said he used a similar tactic when he began doing standup comedy, explaining the hat “gave me a different persona, a different character ’cause I was hiding.” He believes Gase is doing much of the same.

“Either he’s hiding baldness, or there’s something about his personality that he’s uncomfortable with, but you can’t trust a man that wears a hat. He’s gotta take the hat off,” David said.

Perhaps Gase will take David up on his advice for his sophomore season.

The Jets did not immediately return The Post’s request for comment.
