Woman models fancy gowns all day to fight quarantine boredom
All dressed up and nowhere to go?
While many fashionistas are outfitting themselves in work-from-home go-to’s like tie-dye sweats and pajamas, a new wave of glamorous gals are wearing ballgowns to make their quarantine experience a more fanciful fête.
Decadent dressers are having a ball working from home, and are taking to social media to document their red-carpet-worthy looks.
Lucy Rogers, a 32-year-old who works in digital marketing, started an Instagram account, Say Yes To The WFH Dress, to share her daily gown get-ups in their full glory.
“I created the Instagram account to make my friends and family smile, to be honest, but it’s taken on a life of its own,” Rogers tells the Daily Mail. “I’ve had so many messages from people saying they love the idea or are joining in and getting involved.”
To kick off her well-dressed journey, she chose an ML Monique Lhuillier purple- and-navy jacquard sleeveless gown from Rent the Runway, a popular clothing subscription service and Rogers’ go-to shop for runway-ready ensembles. The gown, which normally retails for $1,000, can be rented for the low price of $150, or $69 with a membership.
What started out as mostly pretty looks has since taken a more practical turn, like her Day 13 OOTD. Her ensemble of choice was a navy one-shoulder top with a matching ball-skirt by Jay Godfrey that she accessorized with a pair of yellow rubber gloves. She finished off the look with a messy top knot and cleverly captioned the photo: “Day 13. WFH 101. . . Multitasking! At home, we can multitask with those pesky household chores whilst on calls. This dress is beyond ideal for something like this.”
Rogers is all about this two-in-one get-up, telling the Daily Mail, “It’s just something I’d never be able to wear for a business meeting in everyday life, but it’s a great two-for-one!”
She’s not the only one glamming up for lockdown life. Jessica Wang, a New York-based fashion influencer and blogger pulls her swoon-worthy showstoppers from her personal fashion archives. In one post, Wang wears a one-shoulder column dress by Sandra Mansour while tending to daily household duties.
Another source for formal fashion inspo is @WFHFits. The popular account, which boasts 22.4k followers, curates and posts the best work-from-home looks submitted by fellow users.
One recent post with the caption “FIGHT THE LOCKDOWN BLUES WITH A BIG FIT — EVEN IF NO ONE SEES IT,” featured a stylish savant donning a gold lamé midi-dress by The Vampire’s Wife, which retails for $2,541.
Even celebrities like Kourtney Kardashian have started to embrace this black-tie rule of thumb when dressing for daily activities. In a recent post, the eldest of the Kardashian crew, 40, posed in a sultry emerald Roberto Cavalli gown with side cutouts, looking very va-va-voom.
Even Brooke Shields isn’t letting this pandemic get in between her and her ballgowns. The iconic beauty posted a photo wearing a Grecian-inspired ivory gown styled with bold statement earrings. The 54-year-old finished off her look with a smoldering smoky eye and sleek slicked-back tresses.
