It is now “unlikely” that coronavirus-stricken former state Senate leader Dean Skelos will be released from prison into home custody, federal prosecutors revealed this week
The development late Monday came after the US Attorney’s Office said last week that Skelos would be furloughed and released into home confinement.
“The BOP has not made a final determination regarding whether Skelos will be furloughed, and that it now appears unlikely that he will be granted home confinement in addition to any furlough,” wrote federal prosecutor Audrey Strauss.
Skelos had tested positive for COVID-19 on April 8 and had been quarantined at the Otisville minimum-security facility in Orange County, according to court papers.
On April 15, prosecutors wrote in a filing that the Bureau of Prisons told them that “Skelos has now been cleared by medical staff at the facility for release, and release paperwork is currently being prepared.”
Skelos, once the Empire State’s most powerful Republican, was convicted and sentenced to four years in prison in 2018 for strong-arming companies into providing do-nothing jobs and consulting gigs to his son, Adam.
