Ex-Atlanta cop charged with murder of Rayshard Brooks turns himself in

The ex-Atlanta police officer charged with murder in the shooting death of Rayshard Brooks turned himself in to authorities Thursday.

Garrett Rolfe, 27, who faces 11 charges, including felony murder, had until 6 p.m. to surrender, CNN reported.

Earlier Thursday, Atlanta cop Devin Brosnan, who is charged with aggravated assault in Brooks’ shooting outside a Wendy’s fast-food restaurant Friday, also turned himself in and was later released on bond.

Fulton County District Attorney Paul Howard, who announced the charges Wednesday, said prosecutors will ask that Rolfe be held without bail.

Howard said Brosnan was cooperating with investigators.

Brooks was shot twice in the back by Rolfe after he scuffled with the two cops and fled with one of their Tasers last Friday.

The Fulton County Medical Examiner’s Office ruled Brooks’ death a homicide.

Rolfe was fired just hours after the shooting and Brosnan was placed on administrative leave.

Rolfe could face the death penalty if convicted.
