Indiana politician Larry Brown: Unfortunate that uneducated protesters ‘breed’

A local politician in Indiana drew criticism this week for saying at a county council hearing that protesters who have demonstrated in Fort Wayne are “uneducated” and “unfortunately they also breed,” according to a report.

Allen County Councilman Larry Brown made the remarks as legislators were discussing whether to make a public statement about police brutality at a council hearing Thursday, a local CBS affiliate reported.

“As uneducated as they are, obviously, on local government, they do vote, and unfortunately they also breed,” Brown said at the hearing, according to video published by the news channel.

“They do vote and they’re going to be an uneducated voter,” he added.

After Brown’s statement, the council president said the meeting wasn’t the format to discuss the issue and abruptly cut the hearing short.

In a statement to the news station, Brown apologized for his comments about protesters “breeding,” but reiterated that he thought they were uneducated voters.

“My comments in regards to protesters breeding was wrong, and totally out of line,” he said in the statement.

“For that, I apologize. These comments were made in response to a discussion about what role Council can play in addressing the issues before us today. I do stand by my comment that too many of the protesters seem to be uneducated in local government structure,” he added.
