Twitter bans controversial British commentator Katie Hopkins

Social media giant Twitter permanently banned controversial British political commentator Katie Hopkins for violating the platform’s “hateful conduct” policy, a report said Friday.

The conservative commentator, who has garnered more than a million followers on the platform, had recently lost her “verified” status on the website, the Guardian reported.

“Keeping Twitter safe is a top priority for us. Abuse and hateful conduct have no place on our service and we will continue to take action when our rules are broken,” the company told the Guardian in a statement.

“In this case, the account has been permanently suspended for violations of our hateful conduct policy,” they added.

Hopkins has drawn criticism for a number of her controversial statements, such as referring to immigrants as “cockroaches” and most recently criticizing Black Lives Matter protesters.

She’d also previously suggested a photo of a dead Syrian boy who had washed up on a beach was staged.
