Coast Guard filmed making harrowing rescue of boaters from capsized vessel

A US Coast Guard crew was filmed making a harrowing rescue of seven boaters, including a pregnant woman, who had capsized their vessel in Tampa Bay last weekend.

The seven people were spotted desperately clinging to their 20-foot boat near Port Manatee at about 5:30 p.m. on Sunday, The Tampa Bay Times reported.

“Don’t let go of that bag!” one of the Coast Gaurd members could be heard yelling as he guided one of the survivors to safety in a clip posted to the Coast Gaurd’s twitter Sunday.

It’s not immediately clear what caused their boat to capsize, but only two of the boaters were filmed in life preservers during the choppy-water rescue.

“It was really important we assisted and we got there in time,” Coast Guard spokesman Erik Villa told the paper.

Those rescued were transported to Port Manatee, where emergency services awaited, the Coast Gaurd tweeted. One of the survivors was a pregnant woman and another was a man who suffered a minor leg injury, according to the Times.

The Coast Gaurd said everyone was evaluated and in good condition.
