Elvira, Mistress of the Dark, still sexy at 69, won’t cancel Halloween

Even Elvira won’t be going trick-or-treating this year — but she’s not giving up on her big day.

Actress Cassandra Peterson revived her seductively spooky persona from 1988’s “Elvira: Mistress of the Dark” in a new public service announcement urging others to party inside this Halloween to stop the spread of the coronavirus.

Peterson, 69, looked cheeky as ever in the “Don’t Cancel Halloween!” video posted to her YouTube channel on Tuesday.

“I’m the queen of Halloween, COVID-19 ruined everything,” she sings to the tune of Madonna’s “Holiday.” “If they cancel Halloween because we’re still in quarantine, it would suck, it would suck so bad!”

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has warned that Halloween traditions, like trick-or-treating, haunted houses and hayrides, are “not advised” this year in light of the pandemic.

“Imagine if you will, no costumes candy or celebration, because everybody’s still in self-isolation,” she wails in the clip. “No dudes cross-dressing — it’s all so depressing.”

She changes her tune halfway through the song. “The scariest thing about this Halloween is that big, orange, fat, scary face,” she says to the camera, before picking up a jack-o’-lantern bucket. “Who’d you think I was talking about?”

Despite singing “don’t cancel Halloween,” she asks her viewers to stay at home instead.

“Stay at home on Halloween, read a magazine. Don’t stay up ’til very late, be in bed by 8,” she ends the song. “Like Frankenstein without a bride, just stay inside, can’t you see that my soul just died?”

The Mistress of the Dark has 33,100 followers on her YouTube channel, where she vlogs about horror fandom and gives tips about surviving the pandemic.
