Long Island dog sitter charged with abandoning puppy in dumpster

A dog sitter allegedly abandoned a puppy in a dumpster near a Long Island beach last week, police announced Tuesday.

Thami Stafyleras, 44, is accused of ditching the 17-week-old Pomsky named Louie in a dumpster at Captree State Park in Babylon last Monday, according to cops.

Stafyleras, of Mineola, was supposed to be caring for the pooch for an acquaintance from Huntington Station who was out of town, police said.

Louie was found inside the dumpster by a 59-year-old woman. She reported the incident to police and took the dog to an animal hospital, authorities said.

The puppy is in good health and will be returned to his owner.

Stafyleras was charged with abandonment of an animal.
