Hate crimes in NYC continue to surge amid wave of anti-Asian incidents

Hate crimes are still soaring in the Big Apple — with 13 reported last week alone, NYPD data released Monday shows.

Racist attacks in the city are up 11.4 percent — 98 compared to 88 on the year as of Sunday, according to the CompStat data.

Over the same week last year, just one hate crime was reported — but New York City was in the throes of the COVID-19 pandemic and brought to a standstill.

Asians have been the victims of a series of violent attacks and racist harassment in the Big Apple and beyond.

Demonstrators took to the street Sunday to rally against the racist incidents, specifically the unprovoked attack on a 65-year-old Filipino woman in Midtown last week.

The assault on the victim, Vilma Kari, was just the latest to grab headlines in New York amid the spike of incidents targeting Asian Americans.
