Alabama man hits fame with bizarre perp walk rant

An Alabama man accused of stealing a car got his 15 minutes of fame when video of his perp walk went viral — showing the motormouth rambling about running for mayor and even telling a TV reporter he’d “steal your heart, baby.”

Jeffrey McCants also admitted to swiping a Prichard Fire Department vehicle as police led him to an awaiting SUV in handcuffs, the video by WALA shows.

“Hello, my name is Jeffrey McCants – I’m running for mayor of Mobile, Alabama, baby!” he says as he exits a building to a throng of reporters.

One asks McCants why he stole the vehicle — prompting him to try to woo the woman.

“Ma’am, if I had a woman like you I wouldn’t need to,” he answers, as officers nudge him along.

“But I took it because God told me to,” he adds.

“And guess what? God help me do everything. I steal everything, man – I’ll steal your heart, baby.”

He goes on to say God helped him do everything, good and bad.

“Helped me get away from police – but not this time,” McCants says.

A reporter then starts asking questions of another man, Henry Dixon, who is charged with theft, receiving stolen property and drug possession, the TV station reported.

McCants jumps to Dixon’s defense, taking all the blame.

“No, I did it, man – he didn’t do s—t,” McCants says. “I did everything and, look, when I get out I’m going to steal a police car!”

McCants’ performance was filmed June 2, reports said – and his theft was also caught on video.

In surveillance footage released by cops, a man that appears to be McCants takes a 2009 Crown Victoria from a station, WALA reported.

McCants, who is facing charges of first degree theft and burglary, had a previous conviction for grand theft auto, the station said.

His comments have since made the rounds on TV and social media, with some jokesters selling “campaign” T-shirts for McCants’ supposed mayoral run in Mobile — with the slogan, “God help me do everything, good and bad.”
