Crook pummels Bronx straphanger and steals phone, cops say

A mugger punched a man several times in the head during a robbery in a Bronx train station this week, authorities said.

The 47-year-old victim was sitting on a bench waiting for a northbound 4 train inside the East 167th Street station in Concourse around 11 p.m. Monday, when another man approached and repeatedly pummeled him in the head, police said.

The suspect then swiped his phone from his hand and bolted from the station, heading east on East 167th Street.

The victim refused medical attention at the scene for bruising to the right side of his face.
