TV’s biggest night is on a roll and guests have been rocking to the beats of Reggie Watts, the Emmy Awards’ DJ and resident funnyman.
Watts, 49, is an actor, comedian, musician and beatboxer who is currently part of the house band and is the announcer of “The Late Late Show with James Corden.”
The German-born star has been a staple on Corden’s late-night talk show since 2015.
One of his most emotional moments on the show was back in June 2020 when he and the 43-year-old “Cats” star had a discussion about race on one episode. The segment had Corden talking about the George Floyd case that rocked America last year.
“I’ve been struggling all weekend wondering what to say to you tonight, because who needs my opinion?” he said. “Like, why is my voice relevant? There is not one person in the world who woke up this morning and thought, ‘I need to know what James Corden thinks about all of this.'” He added that his avoidance talk about racism was “part of the problem.”
Watts interjected and shed some light on his childhood. His father served in the Vietnam War and was unable to find work after due to the color of his skin. His dad was forced to re-enlist and go back to the war and his parents’ marriage wasn’t recognized because of laws not recognizing interracial marriage.
“My mom was a fierce fighter and would get out of the house and get in people’s faces about people calling me the N-word,” Watts explained.
“I’m so sorry that you’re feeling this, and I would give anything to be in a room with you and put my arm around you,” a choked-up Corden said at the time. “I would give anything to put my arm around you.”
Watts has also made guest appearances on programs such “America’s Next Top Model,” “John Oliver’s New York Stand-Up Show,” “Pitch Perfect 2” and “The SpongeBob Movie: Sponge on the Run.”
